Eddie Murphy welcomes his ninth child, daughter Izzy Oona, with Paige Butcher
Back in November of last year, we learned that Eddie Murphy was expecting his ninth child, his first with his long-time girlfriend Paige Butcher. “Long-time” meaning four years, they’ve been dating since 2012. Paige has been described by some long-time Eddie-watchers and friends as being the one to get Eddie to come out of his hermit crab shell a little bit. She’s also 19 years younger than Eddie – he’s 55, she will be 37 years old next month. And now they’ve welcomed their first child together, a little girl.
It’s a girl! Eddie Murphy is a dad of nine after welcoming a baby girl on the morning of Tuesday, May 3, in Los Angeles, California, his rep confirms to PEOPLE. Daughter Izzy Oona Murphy, who arrived weighing 7 lbs., 15 oz., and measured 19½ inches long, is the actor and comedian’s first child with longtime girlfriend Paige Butcher.
“Both mother and daughter are doing well,” according to a statement.
Murphy, 55, is also dad to Eric, 26, and Christian, 25, as well as Bria, 25, Myles, 22, Shayne, 21, Zola, 15, and Bella, 13, his children with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell, and his 9-year-old daughter Angel with Melanie Brown.
The name… Izzy Oona Murphy. I’m not feeling it. I’m totally fine with Izzy as a nickname for Isabella or Elizabeth or Isadore. But to give the baby a nickname-as-first-name? Eh. Oona, on the other hand, just reminds me of Oona Chaplin, also known as Talisa Stark, the wife of Rob Stark, and murder victim at the Red Wedding.
It’s sort of crazy to me that Eddie already had eight kids before Izzy Oona and seeing their ages listed like that… damn, bro. Five of his “kids” are already adults!
