Kids YouTuber Ms. Rachel Said Happy Pride and the Right-Wing Tantrums Commenced

Publish date: 2024-07-07

Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, the same right-wing trolls who equate any mention of LGBTQ+ inclusivity with predatory “grooming”— and who quaked in their boots at Bluey’s casual mention of a queer family — decided to throw a hissy fit over Accurso’s video anyway.

Daily Wire host Matt Walsh shared Accurso’s Pride message on X, writing, “This is a message to conservatives parents. She doesn’t want your business. You should respond accordingly.” Tight-wing influencer Morgonn McMichael quoted Walsh’s original video, declaring, “This woman is sick.”

Meanwhile, conservative YouTuber Abby Shapiro — yes, the sister of the Barbie-burning Ben Shapiro — took to Instagram to complain that Accurso mentioning Pride equates to children “being exposed to things they shouldn’t be exposed to.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be an episode of right-wing fearmongering without Libs of TikTok’s Chaya Raichik getting in on the mess. Raichik also quoted Walsh’s X post, writing, “[Miss Rachel] says she doesn’t want your business if you don’t subscribe to the child m*tilat*on cult.”

This isn’t the first time that Accurso has received hate for casual queer inclusion. In March 2023, she faced pushback for featuring nonbinary performer Jules Hoffman in her videos.

Nevertheless, Accurso remains unflinching in her support of the LGBTQ+ community. In a Monday follow-up video addressing the backlash she’s received, the creator even brought up a Bible quote to show right-wingers an example of what letting your faith drive your values should look like. She noted that she has shared prayers and said “God bless” on her platform because “my faith is really important to me” and “one reason why I love every neighbor.”

Accurso went on to summarize a chapter from Matthew in the New Testament in which Jesus invokes the Great Commandment “love your neighbor.”

“I believe it’s mentioned eight times — ‘love your neighbor,’” she said. “So yes, everyone belongs. Everyone’s welcome. Everyone is treated with empathy and respect. It doesn’t say, ‘Love every neighbor except.’”

In an email to NBC News, Accurso shared that she has received emails from viewers telling her that they couldn’t watch her anymore because of her support of the LGBTQ+ community, which she responded to “with love which was genuine.”

“We have met so many wonderful families who watch the show, all with different beliefs, religions, and political views,” she wrote. “We treat everyone with empathy and respect. I think it’s important to find common ground, and we all want what’s best for our little ones. I believe there should be less division and more dialogue.”
